Shortly after my first visit to Pretend City, Ude invited me to the Start Smart Luncheon. I immediately said yes! The tour of Pretend City left such a memorable impression; I knew I wanted to support such a purposeful organization. I recently sponsored a Dig Box in the Pretend City Natural History Museum through the Dollars 4 Dinos campaign.
The most important work of Pretend City is Education! I have been mentoring older students to increase their Soft Skills and Critical Thinking for four years through a program entitled Career Edge sponsored by the Greater Irvine Chamber. Developing these skills in the youngest of age groups at Pretend City, is an amazing concept. Showing our youngest, that education can be fun, is the beginning of lifelong yearning to learn. I will support Pretend City’s programs that are designed to stimulate and expand the learning levels of this youngest of age groups.
The vision to grow and move Pretend City in a few years, to a location at Irvine’s Great Park is very exciting. Allowing the museum to expand in ways to create a greater learning experience, both indoors and outdoors.
In my opinion, Pretend City is an educational jewel of Irvine, and I would like to see this wonderful learning environment become better known to all parents in our greater community. Where else can you find a scaled Trader Joe’s, where your Children can shop, learn the value of cost of goods at the checkout line?
