Art Studio
ART STUDIO >>
The Art Studio is a hands-on exhibit that offers Process Art experiences that encourage imagination, creativity and discovery. We strive to foster an environment that emphasizes the process of art making over the product created.
Each week the Art Studio features a different Art Studio Session related to our museum programming and special celebrations. Children will explore painting, drawing, collage, printing, beading, and clay as they get hands on with a variety of special materials and mediums all while learning new techniques and making connections with art and its relation to the world around them.
Through artistic media, children will gain valuable school readiness skills including:
- Physical skills- fine & gross motor developmentSocial skills- collaboration, sharing, communication & self-regulation
- Cognitive skills -understanding cause and effect, shape & color recognition, counting and patterning
- Emotional skills- self-expression, risk taking
Understanding Process Art
Process art in the Art Studio is all about the creation of open-ended art. There are no step-by step instructions, samples, or right and wrong way to create. The focus is on the exploration of techniques, tools, materials, and process over product.
Inspiration for open-ended art activities is based on holidays, seasons, nature, people, places and art history. We use these and other topics to illicit creativity and promote learning. Additionally, books, artful illustrations, and visuals are provided to add to the sensory experience. Each day we provide a variety of different materials that our guests are able choose from to create.
Art making is joyful, relaxing and calming. The experience of art making is unique to each child and so is their artwork! The Art Studio is a unique exhibit that provides plenty of time and space for children to carry out their plans and explorations.
We are always looking for new and gently used Art supplies for our Art Studio Exhibit.
