Purim
March 16, 2022

Wednesday, March 16
Today we celebrate this festive Jewish holiday including sweets, storytimes, and art activities. Purim is all about honoring the bravery of Queen Esther and her successful plan to save the Jews. The Purim story helps children learn about courage, bravery and standing up for what’s right. Your kids will be able to learn about the meaning behind Purim.
Purpose Behind the Play: Social-emotional practice, exposure to different cultures and traditions, and artistic creativity.
Smart Art (on-going): Groggers & Hamentaschen >
- Groggers are noise makers used to celebrate this special Jewish holiday. Let’s get in the spirit of the holiday by creating our own Groggers to celebrate the symbols of the season.
- We will provide the materials for our guests to make their own Hamentaschen! We will use paper plates, tape, and yarn!
Sensational Storytime in Orange Plaza (11 AM & 2:30 PM): The Purim Superhero> Nate loves aliens and he really wants to wear an alien costume for Purim, but his friends are all dressing as superheroes and he wants to fit in. What will he do? With the help of his two dads he makes a surprising decision.
Music & Movement: We’re having a very special Purim Parade!
Magnificent Math & Science: Tzedakah comes from the Hebrew word for justice. Today we’ll be creating our very own Tzedakah box.
Grown-up Tip: There are lots of ways to honor this holiday, but the most common way is giving money, donating food, clothing, or volunteering one’s time to those less fortunate. The overarching goal is to ensure that the world’s resources (food, water, clothing, education, and shelter) are shared justly. Modeling charitable acts is a great way to teach your child the value of tzedakah, and studies have found that it leads to marked increases in children’s self-esteem and feelings of empowerment
