Way to Play Day
November 12, 2021
Friday, November 12 | 10 AM – 3 PM | 2nd Friday of the Month
This month at our Way to Play Day, we’re focusing on fine motor skills! Join us as our guides highlight how to make playtime in the museum more educational. We will also be offering FREE developmental screenings.
Purpose Behind the Play: Whole-body development, communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, social emotion expression.
Specifically, for: Infants (birth -12 months), Young Toddlers (12-24 months), Toddlers (2-4 years), Preschoolers (4-5 years); Grown-ups
Good to Go From Head to Toe, Pretend City’s child development initiative, together with our play partners, are here to assist you with:
- Parenting resources: Connecting families to developmental, behavioral, learning, parenting, educational and support services.
- ASQ Developmental Check-ups (10 AM – 3 PM): Assess speech, motor, cognitive and social-emotional areas (first come, first served; limited spaces available). This month’s ASQ Screenings performed by Cal Baptist Nurse Practitioners and Pacific College Nurses.
- Speech & Language (10 AM – 12 NOON): Speech Pathology Associates will be conducting speech and language screenings. These screenings are an excellent resource for checking to see if your child’s skills are functioning at age level expectations.
Grown-up Tip: Just as you point out fruits and vegetables in the Pretend City Farm, you can label and discuss produce in the kitchen of your own home! Point out the different colors, textures, and shapes within each piece – cut it open and show your child the different layers and components. Identify the differences and similarities between a yellow squash and a green zucchini and a purple eggplant. This is a great way to encourage new vocabulary, meaningful conversation and an exploration of new food.
RSVP: Not required
Fee: Check-ups and activities are included with museum admission
