Ramadan

April 23

Saturday, April 23

Let’s observe Ramadan! For the hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world who observe Ramadan, this month is a time to focus on their faith and perform generous acts. Some Muslims use this time to raise money or donate to help others in need. Today we will learn about this significant tradition in the Muslim culture.

Purpose Behind the Play: Cultural awareness, literacy, and fine motor development, exploring curiosity

Smart Art (on-going):

  • Ramadan Moon > An important symbol of Ramadan is the crescent moon. Its presence signifies the beginning of Ramadan! Join us today as we create a large hanging crescent for our Art Studio!

Sensational Story Time in Orange Plaza (11 AM & 2:30 PM):

  • There was an Old Auntie who Swallowed a Samosa

Synopsis: Auntie Sophia is making her special out-of-this-world samosas for the mosque iftar. But what this samosa pro doesn’t know is that her kitty, Serrano, has some sneaky plans to alter her recipe! What will happen?

Music and Movement (directly following story time):  Learn children’s songs that relate to Ramadan with the experts from Ramadan READy!

Activity (directly following music and movement):  Join us in decorating and adding your own twist to our Mosque! We will provide loose parts and you can enjoy the process of decoration as you appreciate the mosque and its purpose in Ramadan.

Henna Artist (available directly after story time for both sessions):  Coming with Ramadan READy is a henna tattoo artist who will provide free hennas to anyone who is interested! This is a huge part of any celebration in the Islamic Culture and we are celebrating Ramadan with the decoration of your hands or feet!

About the play partner: Lila from Ramadan READy
Purpose: By brining in the experts, we are allowing true traditions to stay alive as well as giving our guests accurate information and insight on these celebrations!
