Family Autism Night

Thursday, May 26 | 5 PM – 7 PM 

An opportunity for neurodivergent children and their families to enjoy The City in a whole new way – we’ll dim the lights and turn off The City Sounds. While you play and build connections, our community partners will be on hand to enrich your family’s play experience with practical support as needed. Specifically, for: Families with children of all ages who are Neurodivergent, along with their parents, siblings, caretakers, coaches, & therapists. Pretend City will be closed to the public.  

Art Studio Sessions (5 PM – 6:45 PM)  

• Nifty Nature> We’re filling our sensory bin with creepy crawly bugs and magnifying glasses. We’ll also offer our little arts all the materials necessary to make instruments that sound like the rain forest. In addition, we’ll offer an array of natural colored paint available for a color exploration.  

Storytime:  

• Quick as a Cricket> In this story a young boy compares his characteristics to those of different animals – can he be as loud as a lion or slow as a snail? His awareness shows self-confidence and that he is made up of multiple layers.
  

Play Partner: Original Sprout
Purpose: Healthy habits lead to healthy development and that is why safe non-toxic body products may be the right fit for you! Sample and learn about these hypoallergenic, non-sensitizing products the whole family can use!

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: We have a reoccurring predicament that we need your help with! Consistently, 200 guests register, but then never attend. To mitigate this, we’ve decided to open registration closer to the event’s date so parents can better gauge their ability to attend. We know that a child’s temperament, nap schedule, energy level, will and desire to play can be unpredictable – we don’t want to discourage you from signing up for that reason! We simply want to spread awareness: When you sign up knowing that you likely won’t come, you are taking the spot another neurodiverse family might use! Thank you for your consideration and kindness!

Grown-up Tip: Nature inspires creativity and imagination while engaging your child’s sensory development in an instinctual way. Next time you are outdoors, encourage your little one to walk barefoot – in the dirt, sand, or grass. This will integrate the Babinski reflex and work to combat complications such as toe-walking, balance, and coordination issues.
