Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: Asian Pacific Islander
May 13, 2022
Friday, May 13
Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with us as we explore the history, traditions, and culture of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
Today we will be focusing on the varied experiences of Asian Pacific Islanders.
Purpose Behind the Play: Social-emotional development, self-regulation, color identification, critical thinking, and locomotor movement.
Smart Art (on-going):
- Weave & Strand: On this day we will celebrate Hawaii’s Lei Day by stringing flowers together! We will also weave together green strips of paper to make various shapes and objects, just like many Polynesian cultures!
Sensational Story Time in Orange Plaza (11 AM & 2:30 PM):
- Role Models Who Look Like Me: This book intends to inspire and provide comfort as it fills the gaps, provide representation to the underrepresented, and raise the visibility of the invisible.
Grown-up Tip: Talk to your child about how everyone has a different experience, despite living in the same country, state, or city. Discussing these differences gives your child language and teaches them empathy. Learning about other cultures nurtures empathy and a broader view of our world.
RSVP: Not required
Fee: Included with museum admission
