Christmas Countdown

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…holiday fun at Pretend City! Join us for our exciting 12 Days of Christmas Countdown! Each day leading up to Christmas, we will “unwrap” a new holiday activity at the museum! Get in the holiday spirit as we gear up for Christmas and countdown the days!

Purpose Behind the Play: Literacy and language development, social-emotional development, communication practice, imaginative and dramatic play

Thursday, December 12:  

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): Merry Christmas Mom & Dad > Little Critter is getting ready for Christmas in this classic, funny, and heartwarming book. Join the fun as we follow our favorite furry friend as he prepares for Christmas. Following the story, we’ll create our own special gifts for mom and dad.

Friday, December 13: 

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): Oh, What A Christmas! > Who will guide Santa’s sleigh and save Christmas? Join us to find out how Santa’s solution involves some very unlikely farm animals. Afterward, we’ll pretend to be and sound like some of our favorite animals.

Saturday, December 14:  

Sensational Story Time (11:30am):  Snowmen at Christmas It’s Christmas Eve and people are sung in their beds, but something is stirring outside. The snowmen are preparing to celebrate! Gather in the fun as we read this charming tale and experiment with some chilling mediums.

Sunday, December 15:  

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): The Gingerbread Man Join our storytime where you can catch the gingerbread man. This classic tasty tale will inspire your little sweetie to bake, move, and rhyme. Afterward, we’ll practice our fine motor and hand-eye coordination with a gingerbread threading activity.  

Monday, December 16:  

Sensational Story Time (12:00 pm): Who Will Guide My Sleigh Tonight? > Santa is a funny person, especially when he was considering the different animals that could guide his sleigh. Gather with us as we read this silly story about some unbelievable ideas.

Tuesday, December 17:  

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): Snowballs > We may not be able to experience a change in weather for ourselves here in Orange County, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pretend to have a snow day. Let’s grab some snow and start rolling into this short book that will inspire us to get creative and use our imagination. We’ll get a chance to make our own snowmen after the story.

Wednesday, December 18:  

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): Christmas Cookie Day! > Baking goodies is a timeless tradition this time of year. We invite you to cozy up with us as we read his sweet rhyming story. After the story, we will decorate our very own Christmas cookies!

Thursday, December 19:  

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): Little Blue Truck’s Christmas > It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Little Blue Truck is spreading cheer by delivering Christmas trees to his animal friends.

Friday, December 20:

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am):  How to Catch an Elf We need your help to catch an elf! This funny little tale will take us on an exciting journey through candy-coated, snow-white dreams.  

Saturday, December 21: 

Sensational Story Time (1:00 pm): The Itsy Bitsy Reindeer > Raise your voices and join along as we sing the Christmas version of the classic children’s song. We’ll practice learning the words of this adorably, merry tune.

Sunday, December 22:  

Sensational Story Time (1:00 pm): Sleep Tight Farm > All good things come to an end. Join us as we read this beautiful book that paints a fascinating picture of what winter means to the farm year and to the family that shares its seasons.

Monday, December 23:  

Sensational Story Time (1:00pm): The Night Before Christmas Cozy up with us as we read this classic Christmas tale filled with wonderment and imagination. Following the story we will decorate our own holiday stocking.  

Grown-up Tip: Put your own twist on the 12 days of Christmas. Write a book together as a family of all the events and activities that occur in your household that lead up to Christmas Day! This will work on your child’s skills for reading standards for informational text.
