Mexican Independence Day

Come join us in Orange Plaza as we dance to traditional Mariachi music to honor Mexican Independence Day!
About the play partner:
Zapoteco (Durango) and Coahuilteco (Coahuila) indigenous Mexican heritage. 57 years as a World class performing/touring artist and Master cultural educator, Instrument maker, Composer and Lecturer.
Focus: Indigenous Music of North, Central & South America, specializing in Ancient Mexico since 1975.
Besides traditional music, he also composes with world and electronic influences, creating cutting edge hybrid music for his Project ELECTRA AZTECA! He is a pioneer of “Interactive Performance” and using Native instruments!!! He applies nueroscience concepts as a sound healer. He presented some of the earliest educational programs on El Dia De Los Muertos back in 1980.
In 2020 and 2021, he concentrated on working in motion pictures, video, virtual performance/education with Colleges; Early Childhood Centers; Schools; Libraries and Museums.
Major films: THE OLD WAYS (Netflix); CARLOS ALMARAZ (Netflix); BACKSTREET TO THE AMERICAN DREAM (Not released but premiered Aug 2021 (in Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood); CHAVEZ RAVINE (On Demand 2022) and worked on BABYLON with the Oscar winning director and composer team of LA LA LAND.

Martin has received many awards, his most recent was in October 2021, when he recieved The Heritage Award from Aquarium of the Pacific. In 2019, he received the INCITE award from the Arts Council of Long Beach.
