Cooking in the City

Are you ready for a culinary adventure? Join us for a special Cooking in the City event with Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan! Mayor Khan will be sharing her family recipe for Daal Chawal, a mouth-watering dish that’s packed with flavor and nutrition. Made with lentils, rice, onions, tomatoes, and a little spice, this dish is sure to satisfy your taste buds and leave you feeling energized.

Cultural Implication (TIMES 11 am ONLY): Daal Chawal

Ingredients:  

 Daal Chawal (Lentils and Rice): 

 basmati rice boiled 

red lentils boiled with salt 

Pepper 

Turmeric 

Ginger 

Garlic 

 Olive oil. 

Instructions:  

1. Boil rice in water and separately boil lentils in water with salt, pepper, turmeric, ginger, garlic and olive oil 
2. Once both are cooked, combine.

About the Play Partner: Mayor Farrah N Khan is the 23rd Mayor of the City of Irvine. She is the first woman of color to be elected in the city and the first Muslim to head a large city in the US.  She is Pakistani American, a mom of 2 boys, and a wife to a Chef.
