Basant Panchami

February 4

Friday, February 4

Basant Panchami is an important Indian festival that celebrates the onset of spring and recognizes Goddess Sarawati, the goddess of education and learning. Revel in the fun as we learn about this unique tradition through interactive activities!

Play Purpose:  Social-emotional development, self-regulation, fine motor practice, communication, and creativity.

Smart Art (on-going):

  • Flower Power > Using petal-shaped pieces of paper, our little artists are encouraged to create 3D flowers.
  • Scooped Up Spring > A sensory exploration of everything spring including flowers and bugs.

Sensational Story Time in Orange Plaza (11 AM & 2:30 PM): King for a Day > This story introduces readers to a centuries-old festival and the traditional sport of kite fighting, and to a spirited, determined young boy who masters this sport while finding his own way to face and overcome life’s challenges.

Simple Science & Magnificent Math (directly following storytime): Did you know that kites are an important part of Basant? Today we’ll dive deep into the shapes, engineering, concepts, and weather that are all involved in kite flying.

Grown-up Tip: Basant is a wonderful opportunity to explore the beautiful colors, creations, and traditions of Indian culture. Embrace your child’s inquisitive nature and enjoy this opportunity to celebrate the coming of Spring!
