Family Autism Night
June 24, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Thursday June 24th | 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Join us for a special event that provides a sensory inclusive environment for our Neurodiverse children and their families. Children on the Autism Spectrum as well as those with learning disabilities and or differences are encouraged to attend. With the help of our community play partners, and Pretend City’s experienced and educated team, discover different activities while exploring the museum and learning to interact with peers.
Purpose Behind the Play: Personal social interaction, fine motor skills, creative thinking, executive function, sensory stimulation, and musical expression.
- Art Studio Sessions (5:00-7:30pm): Join us in the Art Studio as we explore water-based art! Using bubble, ice, and watercolors, head on into the art studio for a sensory inspired summer art experience.
- Musical Circle Time (6:30pm): It’s story time! Gather round in Orange Plaza for a Neurodiverse story time that combines musical expression with early literacy skills. This month let’s take a deep dive in this summer ocean story.
Specifically for: Families with children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum or have a disability, as well as therapists and behavioral coaches.
Grown-up Tip: This is a great time to do something special for Dad. Help your little one make several pictures of what Dad does for them. Tie it together just like a book and let your child read Dad the story. Your child is now an author and an illustrator.
This special evening is an opportunity for children and their parents/siblings/caretakers to have some fun in an autism-friendly environment along with other families. Many of our community partners, who specialize in supporting children on the autism spectrum, will be on-hand to enrich your family’s play experience with welcoming smiles and practical support. Watch a video tour of our museum here.
RSVP: REGISTER HERE. 200 guests; Only guests with a reservation and a confirmation number will be admitted.
