Giving back has always been important to us. After learning just how much Pretend City does for our community, we knew we had to be part of their story. We started with a family membership, allowing us to enjoy and benefit from their programming. Seeing the positive impact firsthand with our daughter (who just turned four), we felt compelled to contribute even more—leading us to become proud members of the City Lights giving circle. This way, we can support Pretend City’s mission and help ensure that they continue to provide their invaluable services to our community
We think it’s amazing that Pretend City provides scholarship field trips to Title 1 schools. ALL children should be able to experience the magic of Pretend City, regardless of their families’ income levels. These field trips offer precious opportunities for children to learn, play, and grow in an environment designed to stimulate their imagination and development. By ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent any child from participating, Pretend City is fostering inclusivity, and equal access to enriching experiences that can have a lasting, positive impact on their lives.
Our daughter overcame her fear of Santa Claus at Pretend City, thanks to the loving encouragement from the staff at the Breakfast with Santa event. The staff’s patience and kindness helped her feel comfortable and safe, turning a potentially scary moment into a joyful experience. Our photo keepsake of my daughter’s giant smile as she posed with Santa is now a treasured memory in our house. It’s a beautiful reminder of how Pretend City’s caring environment can create magical moments for children and their families.
We also love seeing donations go toward the Art Studio! Watching our daughter’s creativity unfold with different mediums is so much fun, and knowing she’s encouraged to be messy is liberating. The joy and pride on her face when she creates something unique is truly heartwarming. Supporting the Art Studio means fostering a love for the arts and encouraging the next generation of creative thinkers.
Everyone should look at the calendar to see everything that Pretend City has to offer! We are certain there is something that would benefit every family out there. The variety of programs and events is truly impressive, catering to different interests and age groups. Also, we wish everyone knew that children can never be ‘too old’ for Pretend City! Lots of families don’t realize that middle schoolers and high schoolers can volunteer or join the Pretend City Youth Board, allowing them to develop leadership skills, make new friends, and contribute to the community in a meaningful way. We are hopeful our daughter will want to join when she becomes old enough!
