World Ocean’s Weekend
June 11, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm
Join us for a celebration of the World’s Oceans! Pretend City invites you to experience an exciting weekend of exploration and discovery with our World Ocean’s Weekend event.
Storytime (TIMES: 11 am & 2:30 pm):
The watershed model, a Mini-Pretend City, can be used to visualize to children what happens when trash and other pollutants enter the watershed that drains to the ocean. Using food dye to represent chemical pollutants (oil, pesticides, random industrial mixtures) and sugar sprinkles indicative of trash spread throughout the model we can spray the model using a standard squirt bottle. As the water accumulates it starts flowing downstream into the ocean taking with it the dyes and sprinkles.
About the Play Partner: The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves, and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network.
As one of seventy-seven chapters, the North Orange County chapter primarily educates people on the harms of single-use plastics, the watershed, and gyres with the impacts to marine life and how that can work its way into us.
People can join Surfrider and our chapter by donating any amount here:
