Friday, February 11| 10 AM – 3 PM | 2nd Friday of the Month
Our Way to Play Day this month is focusing on fine motor skills. Join us as our guides highlight how to make playtime in the museum more educational!
Purpose Behind the Play: Imagination, concept development, demonstrate curiosity, language development, recognize and/or name colors, rhythming, and sequencing.
Specifically, for: Infants (birth -12 months), Young Toddlers (12-24 months), Toddlers (2-4 years), Preschoolers (4-5 years); Grown-ups
Good to Go From Head to Toe, Pretend City’s child development initiative, together with our play partners, are here to assist you with:
- Parenting resources: Connecting families to developmental, behavioral, learning, parenting, educational and support services.
- ASQ Developmental Check-ups (10 AM – 3 PM): Our Good To Go Specialist will be providing developmental screenings that track your child’s growth in the following areas: gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, social-emotional, and communication.
- Speech & Language (10 AM – 12 NOON): We have two partners here providing assessments and answering questions – Occupational Therapist Leslie Valmonte from Kid Fundamentals, and Barbara Moore from Speech Pathology Associates.
- Dental Screenings (10 AM – 12 NOON): UCI Dental Students will be here to conduct free dental screenings for all children and supply valuable information about proper dental hygiene.
Grown-up Tip: Encourage your child to perform something nice for someone today! This could be as simple as a compliment or helping a friend up after they fall. The more often a child practices kindness, the more it becomes a part of their natural tendencies. As you encourage kindness within your child, be sure to model similar behaviors – speak with compassion to your server, help your neighbor carry groceries from their car. A child is more likely to become kind if it’s something they see their caretakers exhibit regularly.
RSVP: Not required
Fee: Check-ups and activities are included with museum admission
