Veteran’s Day
November 11, 2022
Today at Pretend City we’re recognizing our Veterans with educational activities and memorable events. This day is dedicated to teaching our young guests about why we appreciate our veterans and how we can show our appreciation. Join us as we show our respect and celebrate those who have sacrificed for our freedom!
Smart Art: Use pipe cleaners and red tissue paper to create lovely red poppies and add them to our community wreath, or take them home for someone you love! Explore red, white, and blue paint, and make handprints on paper! Discover red, white, and blue items in a sea of rice!
Purpose: With these activities, kids will be able to practice their fine motor skills, engage in sensory play, practice bending and shaping, and build neuro-pathways.
Story Time (11am & 2:30pm): Hero Mom by: Melinda Hardin
Synopsis: The moms in the book are superheroes. They may not leap over tall buildings, and they may not have super-human speed. But these moms construct buildings, fly planes, and make tanks roll. They do all kinds of things to help create a safer world. These superheroes are moms. Military moms. Hero moms.
Grown-up Tip: A great way to teach your child about veterans is to talk to one. Do you have veterans in your family, neighborhood, or community who would enjoy sharing their story with you and your child? A simple conversation gives you both insight into the narrative of a real-life hero. It’s likely to be eye-opening, heart-warming, and leave you feeling both grateful and admirable for these great heroes.
