Patriot Day

September 11, 2021

Wednesday, September 11th

September 11th is an important day in any American’s life, no matter how old they are. At Pretend City, we are remembering this day and honoring the lives that were lost. We will have different activities for children to show their patriotism and learn more about the day in a kid-friendly way.

Purpose Behind the Play: social emotional development, empathy, writing and expression emotion, literacy and language development

  • Smart Art (Times Vary):Gather with us in the Art Studio as we come together to create a mural remembering the heroic hands that lost their lives on September 11th
  • Writing Well (11:30 AM): Gratitude is a wonderful feeling to express. Gather with us as we practice expressing our thankfulness by writing (or scribbling) letters of appreciation
  • Sensational Story Time (11 AM & 2 PM): Join us for a story filled with hope, followed by a moment of silence for the lives that were lost on this tragic day in our country’s history.

Grown-up Tip: Teaching compassion is a difficult task. Ask your child to make a drawing or thank you card for a military hero. You can drop this drawing or card off in our art studio and we will make sure that it is delivered to the military heroes protecting our country today. Let your child know that their drawing or card will bring a smile to the face of one of these heroes that may miss their family and friends. Compassion is an important element of social/emotional growth and development.

RSVP:    Not required

Fee:    Included with museum admission  *1/2 price admission for military personnel*
