Kid Inventors’ Day

What can you invent today? Tag us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook about your child’s inventions for a chance to win a Prize!! 

Maxwell’s Coding Class 

Times: 12 pm-12:30 pm & 2 pm -2:30 pm 

Class Capacity: 10 max. Each session (adults are not included in the number) 

Synopsis:  

  1. Coding Robots: Bee-Bot (TIME 12 pm-12:30 pm): Kids will learn what basic coding is and how to code a simple robot. Maxwell will teach them how to act like a robot, and then instruct them how to press buttons on a Bee-Bot to control how the Bee-Bot moves around a map.
  1. Introduction to Coding with ScratchJr (TIME 2 pm- 2:30 pm): Maxwell will be teaching students to code on an iPad. Each child will receive an iPad to use during the workshop with their grownup. Kids will be using ScratchJr, an app that develops creativity and coding skills using visual blocks.

**** The first 5 registrants who show up to each workshop will receive a free copy of CodeSpeak Labs coding book: How to Turn Your Grownup Into a Robot and Other Coding Stories. 

About Maxwell: Hi, I’m Maxwell, and I’m 8 years old. I have been coding since I was 5 as a student of CodeSpeak Labs, and I would like to have the opportunity to introduce kids to the world of coding.

Art (Times Vary):  

Exploration No. 1> In 1905, eleven-year-old Frank Epperson invented the very first popsicle! Explore ice popsicles and learn a new way to paint! 

Exploration No. 2> In 1824, fifteen-year-old Louis Braille invented the reading system for visually impaired people: braille! Discover new textures using rice and liquid glue on paper! 

Exploration No. 3 (Sensory Table)> In the early 1700s, eleven-year-old Ben Franklin invented swim flippers! Play in colorful water and push it around using different materials! 

Purpose: These activities will inspire kids and show them that they can make a big difference, even at a young age. They will develop gross and fine motor skills, learn about cause and effect, discover new sensations, and broaden their creativity. 

 

 Story Time 11:00 am & 2:30pm: If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen  

Purpose: Rhyming cadence, vocabulary building, and vivid photos to use as inspiration for inventors’ day.  

Science (follow story time): Upcycled Creation Station w/ Child Creativity Lab  

Plan: Today we are inventing an upcycled vehicle.
