An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until December 5, 2021

Sunday, November 28 – Sunday, December 5

Spin the dreidel and light the Menorah! We’re celebrating Hanukkah at Pretend City! Let your little ones learn about this holiday through fun activities, traditions, games, and art! We will have full days of fun singing songs and getting in the holiday spirit!

Sunday, November 28

  • Sensational Story Time(12 NOON & 3 PM):  “Runaway Dreidel” > On the first night of Hanukkah a lucky boy receives a shiny new dreidel, but once it starts spinning it just won’t stop! With a mind of its own, the dreidel spins quickly across the floor, out the door, and on down the street, with its excited owner and family in hot pursuit.

Friday, December 3

  • Olive Press Activity (11 AM): Join us and Rabi Sender as we experience an olive press exploration! This immersive experience is designed to capture a child’s imagination as it depicts the struggle for tolerance in the face of oppression. As children press olives into oil, they discover why standing up for every person’s right to express their individuality is a truly pressing matter!
  • Sensational Story Time (2 PM):Celebrating Hanukkah: Eight Nights” This story focuses on the special meaning and traditions associated with Hanukkah. Gelt Scavenger Hunt will follow this storytime.

Saturday, December 4

  • Sensational Story Time (11 AM & 2 PM):  “Mrs. Greenberg’s Messy Hanukkah” > Though it’s the first night of Hanukkah, Rachel’s family won’t really be celebrating until next week. But Rachel wants to celebrate now, so she comes up with a good idea: while her parents do errands, she’ll visit her neighbor, Mrs. Greenberg, and they can make latkes together.

Sunday, December 5

  • Music & Movement (12 NOON): Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel! Today we will learn the words and rhythm to this popular Hanukkah song!
  • Sensational Story Time (3 PM):Hanukkah Moon” > When Isobel is invited to Aunt Luisa’ s for Hanukkah, she’s not sure what to expect as Aunt Luisa has recently arrived from Mexico. At Aunt Luisa ‘s you will get to celebrate the Hanukkah Moon, Isobel’s father promises. A Hanukkah story with a multi-cultural focus, this title celebrates a little-known custom of the Latin-Jewish community.

Grown-up Tip: Sing aloud and sing together! The holidays are a great time to introduce your child to songs like “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah!” As children sing along, they are learning that songs are a great way to communicate and learn about different cultures.
