Father’s Day

Keep the grills off and bad ties at home because Pretend City has everything you need to celebrate the father figures in your little one’s life. Today we’ll honor those great guys with engaging activities, special art, and Father’s Day fun! 

Purpose Behind the Play: Creativity, fine motor development, social/emotional development, cause and effect 

Smart Art (Ongoing) 

• Your Favorite Guy > Make your dad, grandfather, uncle, or other important person in your life something special and fun. 
• Just like Dad > We’ll play with clay and all sorts of tools to see what it feels like to be dad at home and at work. 
• Dads’ Different Interests > Sensory Bin > What sports and hobbies does your dad or grandpa enjoy? Explore the bin to discover your favorite! 

Sensational Story Time (11 AM & 2:30 PM): The Night Before Father’s Day > Shh! There’s a surprise for dad! Find out what this fun family does to celebrate their favorite guy.  

Music & Movement (Before or after story time): Skinamarinky Dinky Dink Song > Originally from a 20th century Broadway musical, this catchy, sweet song is all about love. 

Grown-up Tip: Celebrating days like Father’s Day and Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to talk to your child about family structures and how each family is unique. Remind your child that these days can be meaningful days to celebrate anyone in their life that they love. A wonderful piece of literature that supports these ideas is the book, A Family is a Family is a Family, by: Sara O’Leary.
