Family Friday
November 25, 2022

Take a break from the Black Friday madness and unwind with us at Pretend City! Today is Family Friday at the museum and we are inviting everyone to enjoy some holiday activities and games!
Art: Explore paint together as a family! Using a sheet of white paper and lots of colors, use your hands to paint a picture! Every family is different, and there’s one thing that unites them all: love! Use a floral wire heart and lots of different colors of string to show how each member of your family contributes their love! Join in on a family foam party, with lots of colors and scooping tools!
Purpose: These activities will give families a chance to connect with each other, and allow children to bond with their adults through process art. They will learn about cause and effect, practice fine motor skills, develop their social emotional and communication skills, and develop neuro-pathways while engaging in sensory play.
Story Time (10am & 12:00pm): We are Family by: Ryan Wheatcroft
Every family is unique and special. Some families are made up of many people, and some are much smaller. Sometimes family members look like each other, and sometimes they don’t!
Music & Movement (directly after story time): We are Family – we will dance and sing to We are Family in O.P right after story time! Invite families of children to dance and sing with us!
Purpose: Singing and dancing engages the brain and allows children to express themselves, it supports language development, cultivates communication skills, helps foster physical development, creativity, imagination, social skills and memory!
Grown-up Tip: Exposing your child to other cultures and traditions helps them understand and respect differences and similarities among those in your community. Engage with them by participating in the activities and ask them questions about the process, their observations, and if they notice any similarities to their own traditions.
