Dr. Seuss Day Two
February 27, 2022
Sunday, February 27
“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” Dr. Seuss said it best, there’s no need to contest. We’ll read, learn, and play, shout, “hip hip-hooray!” In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, we are celebrating all weekend long with classic stories, whacky activities, and special appearances by some of your favorite characters!
Play Purpose: abstract art exploration, whole body movement, literacy and word play, mapping sounds to print, creativity, listening and following directions.
Smart Art (on-going):
- Tissued Truffula Trees > We’re looking to Dr. Suess’s illustration of Truffula Trees as inspiration as we recreate and interpret.
- Brightening Our World Through Color > As Dr. Seuss would do, we are going to explore bright colors and color mixing to find what colors make others brighter!
Sensational Story Time in the Traveling Exhibit (11 AM & 2:30 PM): The Lorax > “’Mister!’ He said with a sawdusty sneeze, ‘I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees.’ The Lorax is the original eco-warrior and his message still rings loud today in this fable about the dangers of destroying our forests, told in the trademark rhyme of the irrepressible Dr. Seuss.
Grown-up Tip: Dr. Seuss books are more than just silly rhymes – they support creativity and allow children to have fun with language. Playing with words – even nonsense words—brings an awareness, focus, and fun for readers of all ages. It’s hard not to have fun and smile while reading a Dr. Seuss book!
