Día de los Muertos

El Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, is here―a holiday for celebrating the lives of departed family and friends. Altars are decorated with sugar skulls and marigolds. Tamales and sweets are ready to eat. Soon it will be time for picnics, music, and a costume parade! Come join in these joyful and vibrant festivities that are a tradition in Mexico, the United States, and throughout Latin America.
Smart Art Use tissue paper and pipe cleaners to create beautiful marigold and poppy flowers for loved ones! Play with face paint and mirrors, to help you turn your face into a colorful skull! Explore pan dulce and other foods in our sensory bin!
Purpose: Children will have a chance to experience healthy risk taking and cause and effect with these activities. They will hone their curiosity and fine motor skills, and also learn about different cultures. Children will also develop their social emotional skills and independence.
Story Time (TIMES: 11am & 2:30pm): Dia De Los Muertos
Math/Science: Face Painting> To honor traditional values of Dia de los Muertos, we will provide face paint and mirrors for children to pain their faces! Purpose: This allows children to stretch the boundaries of imagination, encourages creativity, color theory and symmetry, helps children learn about cultural celebrations, supports their developing understanding and appreciation for cultures in their community.
Music & Movement: Sugar skull decorating, calavera face painting, tissue paper marigold flower making, and altar participation.
