Cooking in the City
May 11, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

This month we are celebrating Pacific Islander month! Join us as we learn about The Fifita Family, a Tongan/Samoan Family!
Come taste the food of the Pacific Islands!
Cooking Activities: 11 am & 2:30 pm
The Fifita Family and Pretend City welcomes you into our home by sharing the traditions that this Tongan/Samoan Family, multi-generational family engages in everyday life. The sharing of Lu will be a cooking show method in which there are samples for the children and families to taste! We will share ingredients, stories of how we nurture the land, and our beliefs about how the Earth gives back to us. Little Kelley is very excited to share his culture with others through food!
*This is not a cooking class, we will engage in imaginative play and have an opportunity to enjoy pre-made cooked food.
Come taste the traditional Lu Pulu also known as Corned beef!
Purpose: These activities will encourage children to learn about other cultures and cuisines. They will develop fine motor skills, learn about cause and effect, and develop neuro-pathways through discovering new textures.
About the play partner: Melenaite and the Fifita Family, who currently are represented in the Pretend City Home Learning Space, are brining the entire family to share their traditions of being a Tongan/Samoan blended family!
