Celebrate Raksha Bandhan!
August 22, 2021
Sunday, August 22nd
Raksha Bandhan is a popular Hindu tradition that celebrates the bond between brother and sister. Today we are celebrating this holiday by recognizing the special bonds we have with all our family members! Join us for some collaborative activities that will focus on building bonds and showing our love and appreciation.
Purpose Behind the Play: Literacy and communication, pro-social behaviors, empathy and compassion for siblings
-
- Smart Art (Times Vary): Handmade Rakhi > Children will be able to make their own Rakhis to gift to their loved siblings, family, or peers.
- Cultural Connection (11:30 AM): Our friends from the Irvine Hindu Temple and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) will be here to visit and lead us in special activities that highlight the traditions and meanings of Raksha Bandhan within the Hindu culture.
- Sensational Story Time (3:00 PM): One Busy Day – Enjoy this delightful story about a brother and sister who find out that being busy is more fun together!
Grown-up Tip: Let’s face it, sibling rivalry happens. One tip to keep your house harmonious is to discourage tattling. When your child runs to tell you that his little sister is yanking books off the coffee table, tell him that you’re not interested in hearing from him what his sibling is doing. He can tell you what he’s doing though.
Play Partners: Irvine Hindu Temple and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS)
