Black History Month Celebration
February 2, 2023
Join us all month as we celebrate Black History Month!
Art (Times Vary):
Exploration No. 1> Did you know that Garrett Morgan, an inventor, is the reason traffic lights are the way they are today? Explore red, yellow, and green paint to remind yourself when to slow down, when to stop, or when to go full speed ahead!
Exploration No. 2> Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson helped the United States get to the moon! Build your own rocket out of paper tubes and glue, then blast off!
Exploration No. 3 (Sensory Table)> Explore flowers, jewels, and rainbow pom poms in honor of Marsha P. Johnson, a pioneer of LGBTQ+ rights who stood her ground and fought for the safety of all.
Purpose: These activities will allow children to learn about black historical figures who changed the United States for the better. They will explore through art and learn about their history, while also refining their fine motor skills, learning about cause and effect, and discovering 3D sculpturing.
Story Time (TIMES 11 am & 2:30 pm): This Jazz Man
Purpose: Introduction to nine jazz giants will teach children to count and bring awareness to amazing musicians!
