White Cane Safety Day

Art (all day): Using two large boards, kids will be able to explore wrapping string around pegs to make shapes for our community project! Engage with paint as we explore finger painting on paper! Explore kinetic sand and natural materials to engage our sense of touch!
Purpose: Today, children will really get to engage their sense of touch. Kiddos will be able to have fun and interact with our activities, no matter their vision. All children will be able to practice their fine motor skills, hone their creativity, develop nerve connections, and aid in problem solving and enhancing memory.
Story Time (TIMES 11am & 2:30pm): The Sound of Colors
Movement (directly following story time):
Mystery Box Touch and Feel Exploration: In this activity children will use their tactile experiences to guide them in touching and guessing what a variety of objects are! We will work together, use context clues and support each other in guessing what each object is.
Purpose: positively impacts bonding, relationship building, pro social skills, communication and self-expression, supports cognitive development as well as fine motor development, supports the connection of previous knowledge and the use of context clues with the use of prediction.
Blind Fold obstacle course: In this experience, children will have the opportunity to engage in an obstacle course without their sense of sight. They will rely on another person to give them verbal cues to get through the course! This will happen with our friends from Beyond Blindness.
Purpose: allowing children perspective, understanding, using verbal cues, sensory exploration
About the play partner: Beyond Blindess Established in 1962 in support of adults with visual impairments, Beyond Blindness has continually embraced innovation and change over the last six decades. Today, the organization serves more than 300 children with visual impairments and other disabilities as well as their families. Beyond Blindness looks forward to accelerating its impact into the next 60 years and beyond.
