Learning through Purposeful Play – Buy One, Get One FREE Day!

Play your way through the city with activities that highlight Physical Development through Health and Safety! We will also be offering FREE developmental, dental, speech and fine/gross motor screenings from various participating health partners and the Good To Go team! 

Purpose Behind the Play: Physical Development/Gross &Fine Motor Skills

Time:  10:00am – 3:00 pm; Way to Play Days occur on the 2nd Friday of every month

Hourly Guided Play Scenarios: Embrace imagination and practice reading skills throughout the museum!

  • 11:00 am – Join us on the farm as we practice our gross motor skills while we pick the fresh fruit off the trees! Time to see how far we can reach! 
  • 12:00 am – Lacing beads or noodles on a string helps strengthen the small muscles in the hands, fingers, and wrists! Practice your child’s lacing skills with us as we make noodle necklaces! 
  • 1:00 pm – “Simon Says!” is a fun and easy way to help promote strong physical development! Join us as we stretch, jump and wiggle our way to healthy physical development! 
  • 2:00 pm – Practice your little one’s fine motor skills as we practice pinching and grasping seeds

FREE Health Screenings from 10:00am-3:00 pm 

  • ASQ Developmental Check-UpsCheck to see if your child’s growth and development is on track in the areas of Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and Social-Emotional. ASQ Screenings will be performed by the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) and Pretend City’s Good To Go Coordinator. 
  • Dental ScreeningsHealthy Smiles of Orange County will be here to conduct free dental screenings for all kiddos and supply valuable information about proper dental hygiene! 
  • Speech ScreeningsRepresentatives from Speech Pathology Associates will be here to assess children’s speech. 
  • Fine and Gross Motor Skills Screenings – Maxum Therapy’s physical therapist and occupational therapist will be here to help assist your child in fine motor skills (grasping, buttoning, turning pages, cutting with scissors, etc.) and gross motor skills (catching a ball, balancing, playing tag, etc.) to ensure proper growth and development. 

Grown-up Tip: Create an obstacle course for your child to jump over and crawl through.  Encourage your child as they go through the obstacles using words like “jump over the pillow,” and “crawl under the chair.” A big high 5 will top off the completion of the course for a full body workout. Your child will also associate words with actions for example: jump, over, crawl and under.  

Fee: Activities are included with museum admission, BOGO admission (Buy 1, Get 1). All health screenings* are FREE to the public and do not require museum admission to participate.  Print COUPON here.
