Summer Solstice Celebration

Friday, June 21, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Hot! Hot! Summer Time!

Join Pretend City for our annual Summer Celebration! This event marks the start of Southern California’s favorite season, summer! You won’t want to miss this sizzling summer event!

Purpose Behind the Play: Literacy development, gross motor development, and fine motor practice

  • Smart Art (Art Studio – Times Vary): Sun Catchers > It’s the longest day of sunlight this year, so why not capture its beauty by creating your own sun inspired sun catcher to take home and enjoy all summer.
  • Sensational Story Time (11:00 am): The Longest Day > Author Wendy Pfeffer paints a beautiful picture of summer when butterflies emerge from silky cocoons and daylight hours stretch longer and longer. With lyrical prose and vibrant illustrations, The Longest Day takes us on a journey through the history and science behind the summer solstice, with a focus on summer celebrations from various cultures around the world. Children will create a butterfly to take home after this delightful storytime.
  • Family Fitness Fun (3:30 pm): Family Fun Limbo Challenge > Join us in Orange Plaza as we limbo to some fun summer beats!

Grown-up Tip: When children learn about the different seasons they learn to fully appreciate the natural cycles of the year and why they occur. The activities that will happen at the museum throughout the day will help promote seasonal learning. A majority of the activities will also incorporate fun muscle movement and team building amongst the children.

RSVP: Not required

Fee: Activities included with museum admission
