Remembering Veterans Day

Monday, November 11 @ 11:30 am - 3:30 pm

Monday, November 11: Remembering Veterans Day

Today at Pretend City we’re recognizing our Veterans with educational activities and memorable events. This day is dedicated to teaching our young guests about why we appreciate our veterans and how we can show our appreciation. Join us as we show our respect and celebrate those who have sacrificed for our freedom!

Purpose Behind the Play: Prosocial behavior, social-emotional development, gross, locomotor, and fine motor development, and literacy.

  • Smart Art (Times Vary): Remembrance Wreath> Celebrate this special day in our Art Studio by adding to our remembrance wreath. This community project is an artistic way to show appreciation for our service members while making new friends.
  • Let’s Move (10:30am): Boot Camp > AttentionCalling all cadets! It’s time to get physical in this mini (not too strenuous) boot camp. Come hone your gross motor skills as we duck, march, and jump into formation.
  • Sensational Story Time (3:00 pm)Hero Mom > Join us in Orange Plaza as we read the heartwarming story, Hero Mom which will teach your children about our nation’s veterans and why we honor them on this special day.

Grown-up Tip:  A great way to teach your children about veterans is to talk to one. You have veterans in your families that would be willing to share part of their story with you and your children, a glimpse into the life of a hero. It will be an eye-opening experience, and afterward, your family’s hearts will be filled with gratitude and admiration for these great heroes.

RSVP: Not required
Fee: Included with admission

Explaining Veteran’s Day to your Little One

What is war? Will we go to war? Those can be some daunting questions to answer to young children who are just beginning to understand the world around them. You can first start by explaining that Veteran’s Day happens each November 11th. You can also share that a veteran is someone who has served (or works) in the military – Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. Click Here to read a full article explaining the role of a Veteran to children.
