Kwanzaa Celebration

Thursday, December 26 @ 11:30 am - 12:00 pm

Join us as we celebrate Kwanzaa at Pretend City! We’re bringing out our Kinara and learn about some of the principle and traditions behind this lively celebration that honors African-American culture and heritage.

Purpose Behind the Play: Social-emotional development, pro-social development, sensory exploration, language and literacy development

Smart Art (Times Vary): Corncob PaintingDuring Kwanzaa corn is a symbol of children and a promise of their future. Today in the Art Studio we will be using corn to create beautifully inspired art.

Sensational Story Time (11:30 am): My First Kwanzaa > This story written by Karen Katz is a warm and lively introduction to a special holiday that will help even the youngest child to understand and join in the festivities of Kwanza. A Kinara Craft will follow this story time.

Grown-up Tip:  Visit our library to share a special holiday-themed storytime with your little one.  Let your child read you a story.  This is a special gift your child can give to you while expanding vocabulary, word association, and most importantly increase his or her appreciation for another’s culture and traditions.

Fee: Included with admission
