Monday, October 28 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Time: 5:00 – 7:30 p.m.

This special evening is an opportunity for children and their parents/siblings/caretakers to enjoy Halloween fun in a sensory-friendly environment, along with other families. Children are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costume and enjoy in trick-or-treating around the museum. Our community partners, who specialize in supporting children on the autism spectrum, will be on-hand to enrich your family’s play experience with welcoming smiles and practical support.

Specifically, for: Families with children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum or have a disability, as well as therapists and/or behavioral coaches.

Pretend City will be closed to the general public for this private event.

  • Art Studio Sessions (5-7:30p.m.): Join us in the Art Studio as we explore different textures and prints of all things October! Leaf prints, bug stamping and even a sensory pumpkin activity is sure to have your kiddos learning and appreciating all things nature!
  • Sensitive Story-Time (6:15p.m.) Join us for a spooky sensitive story-time that gets us in the Halloween spirit!

Grown-up Tip:  While children dressed up in costumes is what one may typically envision for Halloween, costumes may not be ideal for your child. If your child does not like their costume, see if they may be open to wearing it for short periods of time and increase the intervals over time. Perhaps by Halloween they may feel comfortable in it. If not, try adding accessories that may serve as a costume over their regular clothes like wings or capes.
