50th Anniversary of Apollo Landing Celebration

Saturday, July 20th

Today we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo landing. This day signifies the first time America landed on the moon.
“That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Rocket on into Pretend City as we celebrate this monumental moment that impacted all of mankind. We will be learning about space exploration through interactive STEAM activities, captivating stories, and stellar artwork.

Purpose Behind the Play:

Art Studio Sessions: Foil Painted Moons >To the moon we go! Land on into the Art Studio as we create our own foil painted moon art. This simple activity is great for working on your child’s developing fine motor skills.

Simple Science (1:00 pm): Defying Gravity > Gravity is a strong force that pulls objects together. Today, however, we are going to experiment to see if we can defy gravity, just like astronauts do in space.

Engaging Engineering (3:00 pm): Hide & Seek Moon In celebration of this milestone in space exploration we will be learning about the moon and the Apollo 11 missionYour little one is sure to love this science activity to the moon and back!

Headin’ Home Moon Walk Parade (4:50 pm): 5, 4, 3, 2, 1….blast off! The day is almost, but the fun is just begun as we strut our stuff and moonwalk on out during our Headin’ Home parade!

Grown-up Tip: Looking for new ideas to expand your child’s learning at home?  Look no further than our very own Pretend City Pinterest boards. These boards are full of ways to make imagination and education come to life through “play”.
