  • Pretend City Hosts Inaugural School Readiness Fair

    Pretend City Launches School Readiness Fair for Families IRVINE, January 29, 2019- Pretend City Children’s Museum is hosting its first annual School Readiness Fair on Saturday, March 23 from 9 am – 2 pm. This is a free community event focusing on providing parents with the core information needed to ensure children are ready to start school.   The School Readiness Fair will provide free health screening services and fun activities. Early learning specialists from several Orange County school districts will be on site to assist with school registration and answer district specific questions. Vendors will also be on site to introduce families to new learning materials, programs, and learning opportunities to further assist each student’s individual needs.   “An education is one of the most valuable tools we can offer to our children alongside assuring they maintain their health,” said Executive Director Sandra Bolton Griffin.  “Pretend City is proud to be able to assist families in both those areas during our School Readiness Fair.”   Last year alone, the Children’s Museum provided over 800 individual health screenings and hopes to provide just as many this year. The School Readiness Fair is free and open to the general public and comes with the opportunity for children to earn a free ticket to the museum after completing at least three screenings.   • ASIAN CULTURAL FESTIVAL COMING TO PRETEND CITY

    Pretend City celebrates diversity through learning about different cultures at their Asian inspired festival IRVINE, January 29, 2019- Pretend City Children’s Museum will provide families with an array of different, fun, interactive activities, character visits and performances inspired by traditional Asian culture at the Asian Cultural Festival from Saturday, February 9, to Sunday, February 10 from 10 am to 2 pm.   Pretend City  will provide children and their families with a fun filled learning experience specific to Asian culture. Each day will feature various cultural activities such as cherry blossom painting, a red lantern art project, and martial arts performances to support the development of children’s hand eye coordination, cultural competence and sensory integration. Families will enjoy  visits from a special warrior princess, a dual language story time with Ni Hao Chinese, a karate lesson and other special performances.   “This year’s Asian cultural festival is expected to be full of surprises and performances. The New Year occurs at different times in cities all around the world.     Pretend City Children’s Museum named National Medal for Museum and Library Service Finalist #ShareYourStory on social media of how Pretend City has touched your life! The National Medal for Museum and Library Service is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries by the Institute of Museum and Library Services in recognition of exceptional service to the community and for making a difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.     We build better brains. That’s our mission. It’s at the core of every exhibit, educational program, and even in our dance parties. We are continuously creating innovative ways to inspire the youngest generation of movers, shakers, and doers in the community.
