Why I Support Pretend City: A Reflection on Community, Creativity, and Connection

My decision to support Pretend City began with a personal connection and quickly grew into something much deeper. From the moment I first visited, the kindness and warmth of the entire staff left a lasting impression. Their thoughtfulness extends far beyond individual interactions; it embraces every family who walks through the doors. I love seeing children truly get to be children, exploring and imagining freely, without the ever-present pull of electronics. In a world that often moves too fast, Pretend City offers a rare and beautiful space where curiosity is encouraged, learning feels natural, and creativity thrives.

What I value most about Pretend City is its commitment to providing an environment where play becomes a catalyst for growth. The Museum’s interactive spaces foster organic learning, empowering children to discover the world around them through hands-on experiences. There is a sense of joy that fills the building—an energy you can feel the moment you step inside.

One memory that has stayed with me comes from my time working at Mind OC / Be Well OC. I vividly remember seeing a miniature van representing our Mental Health Response Team on display at the Museum. It was not only adorable but deeply meaningful. That moment highlighted Pretend City’s dedication to collaborating with other nonprofits and community organizations, all with the goal of supporting families in impactful ways. Now, in my current role with the Greater Irvine Chamber, I see that same spirit of partnership continuing, and it inspires me as we work together toward a stronger, healthier community.

Supporting Pretend City has become a meaningful part of my life. I give both through donations and by volunteering at events that bring people together for a good cause. This year, I attended the Poker Challenge for the first time. I was hesitant at first—new faces, new environment—but once I connected with a few fellow attendees, the evening transformed into a wonderful experience. I enjoy Texas Hold’em, and the event turned out to be a fun, approachable way to meet new people while supporting a mission I care about.

If there’s one thing I wish everyone knew about Pretend City, it’s how tirelessly the staff works behind the scenes. Their dedication goes far beyond maintaining the exhibits; they pour their hearts into creating a magical space for children and into making donors feel seen and appreciated. That level of care is rare, and it’s one of the many reasons I am proud to stand behind Pretend City and the incredible work they do.
