You Are A Player. Admit It.
You are starting to smile just thinking about it. When you were little, you climbed sky-high fences and hiked the tallest and steepest mountains. You built skyscrapers, then you knocked them down… all in a day’s “work.”
Chances are, you didn’t know that while you were building those skyscrapers, you were also developing the skills that were key to your cognitive development. We invite you to relive your youth and participate in play once again at our new Imagination Playground–now open at Pretend City Children’s Museum!
What Is Imagination Playground?
With Imagination Playground blocks kids build a new world every day. They make objects like animals, rocket ships, and robots. They make imaginary places like houses, factories, and cities. They make new dramatic scenarios, settings, and games to play. Most important, they make the rules. Because Imagination Playground is child-directed and open-ended, it encourages self-expression through deep, joyful play.
Why Is It Important?
Unstructured, child-directed play is a critical component of healthy social, emotional, and intellectual development. Unlike toys and games, Imagination Playground blocks don’t dictate to children the way they’re meant to be played.
• Encourages sharing, collaborating, and interpersonal communication
• Challenges children to be creative
• Increase their frustration tolerance
• Develops leadership skills as children work to resolve disagreements
The social challenges and lessons of cooperation that are crucial to social and emotional development are built into the experience of playing with these blocks.
