Specifically for:    Children of all ages; Grown-ups

Children have never had so many reasons to learn some traditions associated with ringing in the new Chinese New Year. Understanding a variety of cultures and values becomes ever more essential to our next generation. Today we will facilitate activities that will give your child an insight into the Chinese culture with activities like: This year the New Year falls on February 8, and is celebrated throughout the month of February. Join us to kick off the Year of the Monkey, by participating in the following activities.

Smart Art: From tangram magnets to lucky red wallets, your children will learn so much about Chinese traditions and beliefs as they create works of art.

Sensational Story Time: The reading of Red is a Dragon will have your children believing they have journeyed to China to participate in this colorful, vibrant holiday. This story time will be followed by a custom and specialized handprint dragon activity.  At 3:30pm join us again in Orange Plaza as we read My First Chinese New Year by Karen Katz which follows one little girl as she learns how to welcome the coming year and experience all the festivities surrounding it.

Chinese New Year Parade: Today we will have a special Chinese New Year themed closing parade.
We encourage you to wear any Chinese Cultural or Dragon costumes for this event.

Play Partner: Pretendgineers and Brain Builders, our experienced stage staff of trained early childhood and child development educators, and grown-ups.

Grown-up Tip: Make your own family tradition. Look for pictures from the past year and make a 2016 picture book. Let your child describe what is happening in each picture and write it down.  Every year your family can go down memory lane and remember good times. Happy Chinese New Year!!
